Comedogenic oil is the enemy of oily skin. These type of oils is more suitable for dry skin types but may clog the pores due to its high caprylic/capric acid. Products containing comedogenic oil block the pores and feed the pimples. Oil should not be in any product that you put on your skin including makeup. shaving cream and sunscreen. Even if you don’t have acne, your skin produces oil. If you are acne-prone, you want to reduce the oil that feeds the acne on your face and all other areas of your body where acne appears.

Always check out the ingredients list when buying a product for an oily skin. Don’t be deceived by the marketing gimmicks. Even if the package says “oil-free”, it does not necessarily mean its suitable for you. The product may contain other ingredients that are greasy and will clog the pores and stimulate acne. Look for products  with the labels that say “non-comedogenic”, which means it does not clog the pores, or “nonacnegenic” , which means it does not stimulate acne. Some labels may even say that the product “doesn’t clog pores”. It is a good idea to test a product by placing a small amount on your forehead to see how it feels.

Some popular beauty products used on oily skin can make acne worse. For example, many people use cocoa butter and other greasy products to smooth the skin. These products contribute to acne. In addition, hair sprays that contain an oily sheen invariably are sprayed on the skin and clog the pores. In this article, BEBE AFRIKANA brings to you tips on how to control oily skin.

Cleansers

Make friends with your skin. Look at it. See what it is telling you. You  may need to wash more frequently to reduce the oily buildup. Washing your face, or the parts of your body affected by acne, once in the morning and again in the evening may not be enough.

Keep in mind , however, that not everyone’s skin reacts the same way to every product. It is a good idea to experiment a little bit. Try one product at a time to see which one works best for you. Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash and Cetaphil are good basic cleansers for everyday use.

Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Products

The top layer of skin is a collection of dead cells that slough off every four weeks to five weeks. You rarely notice the process because old cells are quickly replaced by cells that haven’t been beaten up by the environment. Alpha and Beta hydroxy acids can help unplug clogged pores, smooth skin tone, even out color, improve texture and minimize fine lines and wrinkles without causing long-term damage because they work with your body chemistry.

Alpha and beta hydroxy acids speed shedding by helping to break the bonds that hold the surface skin together. The acids also increase cell production and help to seal in moisture. In addition, they stimulate the body’s natural collagen which plumps out fine lines and gives the skin a nice texture. We recommend using cleansers, toners, wipes, moisturizers and peels that contain alpha or beta hydroxy acids. In most cases, after regular, consistent applications your skin will look fresher, brighter and healthier.

Avoid Picking

It is hard to keep your hands away from your face when you’d like to squeeze a pimple or a blaackhead. But this is harmful. Squeezing, picking and poking make more trouble. You traumatize the skin and increase the inflammation. The dark  marks and indentations that form after picking are often harder to treat than the acne. Picking is a sure way to damage your skin. we cant say it louder or clearer.

Over-the-counter remedies

There are effective over-the-counter creams, lotions, gels and pads to go along with the cleanser. They often enhance each other and enable you to establish an acne fighting routine. Again it is important for you to look at your skin and do a little self-analysis. If your skin is sensitive, creams and lotions are generally better for you. People with normal and oily skin can use a liquid or gel. But gels and liquids contain alcohol and may dry out the skin too much. Its best to use gels only on very oily areas of your skin.

Sun Protection

The sun loves pigment. It stimulates the melanocytes-the pigment cells that give your skin color. And those cells are already overactive. The acne has already turned them on. You need an oil-free noncomedogenic sun protection that contains a sun protection factor of between 20 and 30, preferably with titanium dioxide or zinc oxide.
